Explore the Organizations

Across the country, practitioners, researchers, agricultural specialists, and community leaders are working together to better understand the relationship between diet, food security, and long-term health outcomes. Like the University of Kentucky, several institutions have launched institutional programs aimed at using interdisciplinary expertise to tackle our nation's rising nutritional challenges for a healthier future.

The Aspen Institute

Food and Society at the Aspen Institute’s new Food is Medicine Initiative aims to expand access to proven interventions. Launched in 2019 with support from the Walmart Foundation, the Initiative brings together key players from across the country to share existing knowledge and expertise, identify critical gaps and strategic priorities, and facilitate new collaborations in underrepresented regions and communities. Food and Society, working  with its expert Food is Medicine Advisory Board, published the new Food is Medicine Research Action Plan that establishes concrete steps to build on existing efforts and engage new actors, advancing research across the full spectrum of interventions, from prevention to treatment.

At the Texas A&M AgriLife Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture, IHA, we believe agriculture is the solution – the solution to human health, economic prosperity and environmental sustainability. The IHA is the world’s first academic institute to bring together precision nutrition, responsive agriculture, and social and behavioral healthy living research to reduce diet-related chronic disease and lower health care costs in a way that supports producers and the environment. omposed of three focus areas, the IHA will bring together experts across many disciplines, including agriculture; nutrition; behavioral, social and life sciences; engineering; data and computation science; and economics.

Harvard Food Law and Policy Clinic

As part of the Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation, FLPC advances legal and policy levers that increase people’s physical and economic access to safe and nutritious foods. Understanding the key role that nutrition plays in shaping health outcomes, FLPC advocates for policies that promote affordability of healthy foods and decrease availability of foods associated with diet-related diseases. FLPC further explores innovative policy avenues, including those that improve food and nutrition training for doctors and other health professionals and integrate nutrition services into health care and food systems.

The Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy is collaborating with Congressional leaders, advocacy partners, and other key stakeholders on a bipartisan Food is Medicine initiative. Our goals are to raise awareness of the tremendous impact of food on national well-being, share the remarkable advances in both science and technology that inform priorities, and provide trusted science on actionable and impactful solutions.

The Food is Medicine Coalition

We are an association of nonprofit medically tailored food and nutrition service providers. Our Purpose is to provide a complete, evidence-informed, medical food and nutrition intervention to critically and chronically ill people in their communities; to advance public policy that supports access to food and nutrition services for people with severe and/or chronic illnesses; to promote research on the efficacy of food and nutrition services on health outcomes and cost of care; and to share best practices in the provision of medically tailored meals and of nutrition education and counseling.

Villanova food as medicine course flyer

Villanova University

In response to the growing trend of diet-related chronic disease, we present a 5-module, interprofessional online series addressing the Food as Medicine movement. Expert speakers will provide practical strategies and showcase successful initiatives and research that make identifying, preparing, accessing, delivering, and funding health-promoting, nutritious foods a priority in health professional training programs, clinical practice, community organizations, health policy law, and popular media.
