Vision
To increase University of Kentucky’s impact in the interdisciplinary arena of food, agriculture and health for the commonwealth.
Mission
The Food as Health Alliance addresses the emerging research targeting Food Insecurity as a Social Determinant of Health (SDoH) utilizing a Food as Medicine framework to improve diet-sensitive health outcomes, reduce health care costs, improve the local food economy, and improve clinical outcomes to meet growing demands of these clinic-linked resource programs.
Key Areas of Work
Outreach & Engagement
The Alliance team reaches out across the state to assist community organizations wanting to be part of solutions to reduce food insecurity, improve nutrition security and address clinic outcomes. The team also provides lectures and seminars and hosts events, bringing together sectors across the healthcare by food system. Lastly, the team develops videos for large-scale dissemination focused on a variety of Food and Health topics to be used as open source.
Research
The Alliance helps to facilitate connections and provide infrastructure support for researchers wanting to connect with community and clinical partnerships for interventions, community-based programs, randomized control trials and other key areas of research to help inform best practices for Food as Health to improve clinical outcomes across our state.
Training
The Alliance works with healthcare providers across the state to ensure screening and referral services are taking place in a patient-centered approach.
